AHLOT City Guide: Calgary & Edmonton

Updated: Apr 23, 2019

In honour of our Cannabis Collections™ launch in the Prairies, we asked some of our CCC Albertan natives to shoot over a few fun suggestions for what to see, eat and do in our nation's new weed capital.

As we know, Alberta's been one of the few lucky provinces in Canada to have had cannabis retail from day one of legalization. We've been eagerly awaiting the day our product would hit shelves in Alberta and that day is fast approaching! We're still a growing company so a team biz trip out to the province will have to wait, but in anticipation of a visit, our CCC members helped point us to some spots we should hit up.

CALGARY

Something To Do...

If you want to be touristy.

Go on a High Tour! Led by a "Cannabis Friendly" tour guide of your choice, Canada High Tours offers different packaged experiences for you to choose from. Our team would definitely do the Graffiti Tour experience if we were there! #DoItForTheGram

If you just want to chill.

Build a cute af succulent terrarium at one of Plant's numerous workshops hosted throughout the month. All supplies are provided so just bring yourself and a creative mind! We can't imagine a more zen afternoon.

Something To Eat...

If you want to take a break from meat.

Alberta's known for it's signature beef and cattle, but in the spirit of getting your summer bod ready (and of course, healthy living), we would love to try a curated vegan/vegetarian cuisine by chefs around the city. Planted celebrates their dining series with a closing celebration meal hosted at the Calgary Zoo on April 25th!

Something To See...

If you're sick of the mainstream.

Calgary is hosting their 16th annual Underground Film Festival from April 22-28, with a multitude of ticket options to choose from. Rally your film buff friends and check out the full schedule to catch a one-off feature or pick your top 5 to spend a full day entrenched in Calgary's cinema scene.

If you're into comics and cosplay.

The 7th annual POW! Parade of Wonders is happening in downtown Calgary on April 26th. Release your inner geek and join in on this free festivity by donning your best cosplay gear! We all know someone with a closet fandom love and would definitely be hitting up this event up if we were in Calgary.

EDMONTON

Something To Do...

If you want to take a stroll.

The Old Strathcona Farmers' Market hosts an indoor market every Saturday with over 130 vendors. With everything made personally by the vendor who's selling it, you're sure to find some local treasures!

If you want to learn.

A night with an astronaut? Sign us up. Colonel Chris Hadfield celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon-landing in Edmonton on April 30th (technically this one's a twofer - he's also in Calgary on April 29th!). Listen to him speak about the history and future of exploration at the Jack Singer Concert Hall.

Something To Eat...

If you want to stay warm.

Summer is SO close, but we're not there just yet. Tokiwa ramen bowls will offer your too-eager, under-dressed body some much needed warmth and any ramen shop that includes a boiled egg with every bowl is a winner in our hearts.

If you want to try something new.

Have Mercy seems to be where it's at. With sassy and in-your-face branding at the helm, this bar offers live bands, piano karaoke, gospel brunch, burlesque drag shows and more. Enjoy a show while indulging in their selection of "hole in the wall" foods -- everything is priced at $7.95!

Something to See...

If you have an affinity for the spoken word.

Edmonton's Poetry Festival will be in full swing at the end of the month (April 22 - 28), celebrating writers and connecting the art form with other parts of life like science, politics and spirit. See the full schedule here to find the event that suits your tastes. If you asked us, we'd be at the Slam Finals hands down.

Whatever you and your pals get up to, know that we're fomo-ing and wishing we were there too! A special thanks to Amanda and Derek of the CCC for this tour of their backyard :)
